Flamengo chief executive Bruno Spindel has confirmed the club’s intentions to try and sign loan-star Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa on a permanent basis from Inter.

Gabigol joined the Mengao back in January on a year long loan and has been in simply phenomenal form scoring 27 goals across Brazilian Serie A, Brazilian State Championship and Copa Libertadores action.

“It is difficult to talk about it at the moment but it is obviously our desire to sign him permanently,” Spindel insisted in an interview with Fox Sports.

“His performances and the numbers speak for themselves and he has acclimatised well. He is a great athlete.”

Gabigol joined Inter back in 2016 from Santos in a €30 million but struggled to get regular minutes. He was then shipped out on loan to Benfica but his struggles for play-time continued before he was loaned back to Santos, where he seemed to get his career back on track again.
