Ahead of tonight’s match between Barcelona and Inter, Inter legend Diego Milito recalled Inter’s semi-final victory over the Spanish side on their way to winning the Champions League.

“It was an epic match against a team that had Messi, the best player in the world, in an extraordinary moment. That was a great Inter side. The victory over the two legs allowed us to realise the dream we had of raising the Champions League trophy.

“That Inter side had a lot of heart and never gave up. After Thiago Motta’s sending off, we tightened up and we gave more than 100%, we were deserving of the place in the final.

“The first leg was the real masterpiece though, it was a perfect and extraordinary match. Going to Barcelona with that advantage gave us the awareness that we were able to do it.”

He was then asked about tonight’s fixture.

“It will be a very difficult match because playing at the Camp Nou is not easy. Inter have the chances to do well even if they will be facing a great opponent.

“In the Champions League Inter did not start as they wanted, but in the league they are doing great things. It is not easy to win 6 out of 6 matches: you can only do it if you have a great strength inside.”

Next he was asked about Antonio Conte.

“I don’t know Conte personally but do know that he is an excellent manager who has passed on a winning mentality to the team. It is impressive what he has done so far and he is certainly a world-class manager I hope he is the right man to get Inter back to winning ways. He has certainly laid the foundations for an important season.”

He concluded by talking on Inter striker’s Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.

“There is a lot of great competition at Inter for places and Lautaro is a quality player. Lukaku is an important striker and he has started the season well. He will score a lot, I’m sure of that.”
