Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini refused to entertain the possibility that his side could win the Scudetto this season when talking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia, following the Bergamo based side’s incredible 7-1 thrashing over Udinese earlier today.

“Can we win the Scudetto? No. All we can do is lose to Juventus. Then there is Inter and Napoli above all, as well as other teams that you [the media] called ‘big’ for everything they represent. We can’t win the Scudetto, we have to face a championship that is very difficult.”

Gasperini, who guided la Dea to a third place finish last season above the Nerazzurri, has guided his side to an incredible third place in the league table after nine games, only two points behind Inter and three points behind league leaders Juventus.

However, Atalanta have struggled to carry over their domestic form to their Champions League campaign, the first in the club’s history, as they sit bottom of their group after three defeats in a row.
