City of Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala still holds hope that the current San Siro stadium will not be demolished, according to today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

“I hope that the Council gives a positive assessment, obviously within the limits it considers appropriate. It is difficult to accept the requested volumes. And I believe that in the courtroom there is a shared feeling to try and save the old San Siro. I believe that the vote can be bipartisan, and I hope that it will be so.”

Both Inter and AC Milan are keen to move ahead with either of their two proposals for the new stadium, which would see the historic San Siro stadium demolished and replaced by a modern and more structurally sound home for the clubs. Both teams are still waiting for the Council’s decision on whether there is sufficient public interest in the projects or not.
