Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni spoke to gathered reporters in the mixed area of the San Siro following the Nerazzurri’s hard-earned 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona tonight, with Italian media outlet FcInterNews in attendance.

“I do what the coach asks of me, he trusts me, and I want to repay him as well as possible.”

He touched on how it feels to replace veteran defender Diego Godin.

“I’m living a dream. To be next to names like Godin, De Vrij and Skriniar is really a dream, I hope it never ends.”

The 20-year-old Italian also spoke about how much play time he is receiving this season.

“I came on tiptoes aware that I had to grow and improve. Having said that, I hoped for it because everyone wants to play. I try to steal the secrets from the most experienced people, and I hope we can see the results.”

Bastoni revealed how important this victory was for the squad.

“For us it was essential to take these three points to overcome Juve and put the pressure on. We are aware of our strength, to get to the top you have to go through these games.”

He was relieved for the international break.

“We’ve got a lot of injuries and when we get back, we could have the team almost at full strength.”

The 20-year-old didn’t want to discuss the amount of goals conceded by the Bianconeri this season.

“Every game is on its own, we look at ourselves trying to improve day by day.”

The Italian defender was also happy to work under coach Antonio Conte.

“The coach couldn’t have come to me at a better time, he knows how to launch young players like no other. He helps me a lot both mentally and technically, I thank him very much.”

Finally, Bastoni was happy at the squad’s place in the league table after 12 games.

“It means that we’re doing a good job, that we’re not even halfway through the season and that we have to continue like this.”
