Diego Godin has asked Antonio Conte to allow him to leave Inter in the upcoming January transfer window according to a report from Spanish news outlet El Gol Digital.

The Uruguayan centre back only joined Inter during the Summer on a free transfer following his release from Atletico Madrid but is understood to regret his decision to leave with him having struggled to get to grips with former Italian national team manager Conte’s three man defensive system.

As per the report, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone would likely welcome Godin back with open arms if given the opportunity due to not being entirely convinced by his replacement Mario Hermoso.

The 33-year-old, who will celebrate his 34th birthday in the coming weeks, spent nine years on the books of Atletico Madrid and was their captain for a long time. During his time with the Colchoneros, he made no less than 389 appearances.
