Inter could be set to miss out on Julian Weigl to Portuguese giants Benfica according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

The Nerazzurri club had identified the German midfielder, who is also capable of playing in defence, as a possible loan target for the January transfer window.

Benfica would appear to have overtaken Inter in the race to sign the 24-year-old though due to the fact they wish to sign him outright.

The report goes on to state that Inter are continuing to evaluate Sporting’s Marcos Acuna as a possible addition to the squad.

Inter want to bring in a new left back due to Kwadwo Asamoah’s continued knee problems and have identified the Argentine international as a possibility. Inter have been left impressed by the 28-year-old’s ability to get forward and attack but do have concerns about his defensive capabilities.

In 21 appearances across all competitions this season, the former Racing Club player has scored one goal and provided a single assist.
