Real Madrid have completed a deal to sign Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries for €20 million, with the Dutchman agreeing personal terms and the release clause in his Nerazzurri contract set to be formally activated next week.
According to Football Italia, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the agreement is done between Real Madrid and Dumfries’ entourage, with the clause activation imminent. The formal announcement is expected after Sunday’s Real Madrid Presidential elections.
The release clause structure – first reported by Sportitalia – explains the precise fee. It activates at €20m on July 1, rising incrementally every five days until it peaks at €30m on July 15. By moving before July 5, Real Madrid have secured Dumfries at the floor price, not the €25m figure that had been widely circulated.
Indeed, Inter had been aware of the clause’s vulnerability. Earlier in the spring, the club explored offering Dumfries a new contract without a release clause to protect their position, as reported in April. That approach has now been overtaken by events. Dumfries, who had also attracted interest from Liverpool, prioritised Madrid – and Madrid moved decisively.
Real Madrid Land Dumfries For €20M As Inter Turn Attention To Atalanta’s Palestra
The financial picture is complicated. Inter paid €14.75m for Dumfries from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, so the club do register a technical profit. However, losing a starter of his calibre – a consistent performer in Simone Inzaghi’s wing-back system and a regular Netherlands international – for €20m represents poor value by any modern market standard.
Furthermore, the reinvestment challenge is significant. Inter have identified Marco Palestra of Atalanta as Dumfries’ first-choice replacement, but Atalanta are holding firm at €50m – more than double what Real Madrid paid for the man he would replace. With Premier League clubs also tracking Palestra, the Nerazzurri face a genuine squeeze: sell low, buy high.
Therefore, the net outcome of this summer operation hinges almost entirely on Inter’s ability to close a Palestra deal swiftly and at a manageable fee. The clause has been activated. The clock is already running.
too bad that we sell top players for such low prices, skiniar and brozovic are other examples.
Instead we have had bought players for nothing so the market policy is ” easy come, easy go”
I trust Marotta and I believe no one is perfect, so cheers and good like to Denzel

Welcome back, Sempre Inter. I hope we find right replacement for Denzel.

Dumfries is gone and those who love Conte are delighted. I guess inter are selling instead of buying more.I guess they will use the low IQ Asllani (cannot believe that loser is still an inter)
