In an interview with Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has spoken on Inter’s season so far.

“This is an important year for us, a new journey has started with Antonio Conte. We want to show that we want to be protagonists in the the league. Antonio is a manager with a lot of personality and experience and things are going very well right now,” Zanetti began.

“Of course we are only halfway through the season, but the idea is to compete in the league, in the Italian Cup and in the Europa League and to be able to be protagonists and achieve good results.

“The exit from the Champions League left a bitter taste in our mouths especially with the way it ended, we were in a difficult group and we played good games against Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund..

“Now we have to do well in the Europa League which is always an important competition and we hope to reach the final.

“Juventus has a very competitive team and has many spare parts. We hope to be able to fight until the end of the year on a par with Juve.

“Fans want to win immediately, but it takes time. We must allow time for our manager to pass on his ideas to the players. I am sure that the work we are doing will pay off.”

Zanetti then went on to speak about Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, who has really benefited from regular game time this season.

“Lautaro is doing important things. He has shown very good things and has a great future ahead of him. He is only 22-years-old and still has many things to give and is well on his way.

“We are happy to have him and he is happy to wear the Inter shirt. We knew Lautaro would become the player he has become now.

“He has integrated very well with Romelu Lukaku thanks to the work of Antonio Conte. Icardi is an important striker, he also played very well when he played with Lautaro. When we decided to sign Lukaku we knew he could integrate well with our coach’s idea. The present with Lautaro and Lukaku is very good.”

He concluded the interview by discussing Inter’s reported interest in River Plate’s Lucas Martinez Quarta.

“For a club like ours he is a player who can end up on our radar, but I don’t want to create false expectations. He is a player who is emerging and big clubs are watching him.”
