Barcelona are set to challenge Inter for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud’s signature, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the British newspaper Independent.

The report details how the Catalan club are looking for a low-cost reinforcement this month, due to the injury to Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, who is now side-lined until the end of the season. They are currently evaluating whether the 33-year-old Frenchman would be a good fit for the club.

Inter are still considered ahead in the race for his signature, the report continues. The Nerazzurri’s focused attempt to sign him is likely to come after Italian striker Matteo Politano has completed his move to Napoli.

Giroud has made seven appearances across all competitions for a total of 282 minutes so far this season. In that time, he’s scored one goal, against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup back in August. His last league appearance for the side came at the end of November.
