In an official statement on their website, world football’s governing body FIFA have confirmed that for the upcoming international breaks, clubs will not be obliged to follow the normal rules when it comes to releasing players.
Typically clubs have no option to stop players from attending commitments with their respective national teams but in light of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, FIFA will allow clubs to stop players from going.
A number of Inter players including Lautaro Martinez, Stefan de Vrij, Matias Vecino and Alexis Sanchez have all been called up by their respective nations for matches in the coming weeks but given the rules have been relaxed, Inter may not allow the players to go.
FIFA have also recommended that given the severity of the current situation that all international fixtures scheduled for March and April should be postponed and it now remains to be seen if the associations for each continent take this recommendation on board.
