Inter and Napoli are currently vying for the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen and Inter are leading the race to sign him according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Belgian national team centre back Vertonghen’s contract with Premier League Spurs is due to expire at the end of the season thus meaning both Inter and Napoli could acquire him on a free transfer in the coming months.

This season the former Ajax player has made 26 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored two goals and tallied one assist.

Vertonghen is one of two players that the two clubs are battling it out for with other reports in the media stating that the Nerazzurri and Partenopei are both in for Olympiacos defender Kostas Tsimikas.

Napoli have reportedly already seen an offer for the 23-year-old Greek national team full back knocked back and it has been reported that Olympiacos are holding out for €15 million for Tsimikas.
