Atalanta are in pole position to sign highly rated Santos defender Lucas Verissimo in the upcoming transfer window according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.
The Bergamo based club are ahead of both Inter and Premier League side Chelsea in the race to sign the Brazilian central defender, who could cost them in the region of €10 million, which is cheaper than the price they have been quoted for Marcao by Galatasaray.
Verissimo, who is a product of Santos’ famed academy, is under contract with the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A until the end of the 2021/22 season.
The 24-year-old appeared in both of Santos’ games prior to Brazilian football being brought to a halt due to the Coroanvirus crisis.
Since being promoted to the senior team, Verissimo has made 102 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored five goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.
