Inter central midfielder Roberto Gagliardini has refused to rule out the possibility of Inter going on to win the Serie A title this season, despite the fact they find themselves six points behind league leaders and reigning champions Juventus.
“Scudetto? We have been playing for it since the very beginning. We are playing every three days now and have to pick up as many points as possible. It does not depend only on us, but we will do all we can. We are six points from the top and anything can happen,” he began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on tonight.
Next the Italian went on to discuss areas where he feels the team need to improve.
“We have to be more cynical in front of goal and work on recovering between matches will be fundamental. It is fundamental to lead a healthy life. We need to manage games better too because every game hides many pitfalls and right up until the end, as we saw against Sampdoria, there can be dangers.”
Gagliardini then went on to speak about some of his fellow midfielders, including January transfer window recruit Christian Eriksen.
“Eriksen is an experienced player, he is gradually integrating and helping us. We have players, including Stefano Sensi, who can do very well in that role and who can help us from here to end of the season.”
He proceeded to speak on Inter’s wealth of options in the attack.
“Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are doing well, they must help us and continue to do what the coach asks them. Sanchez has also entered very well lately, he is a very important player for us and Esposito can give us a great hand. ”
In conclusion he spoke on how his teammates and himself managed without each other during the recent lockdown period which left them stuck in their homes.
“During the lockdown months, we always stayed in touch, the dressing room has always been alive and united. The dressing room is the most beautiful part of football.”
This season he has made 17 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored two goals and has provided as many assists for his teammates.
