Inter have confirmed that central midfielder Matias Vecino has underwent successful surgery on a knee injury today via an official statement posted on the club’s official website.

The Uruguayan national team player had an arthroscopic meniscus repair operation on his right knee and the operation was carried out by Professor Ramon Cugat at his clinic in Barcelona, Spain.

The club confirm that the player will remain in Barcelona for the next few days before returning to Milan and beginning the recovery process.

Inter have not given a timeline for return in the statement but reports elsewhere in the media have suggested that Vecino’s season is over.

This season the 28-year-old, who is under contract until 2022, has made 25 appearances across all competitions to date this term. In his time on the park, which totals just shy of 1700 minutes, he has scored three goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.
