Inter and Atalanta mathematically both secured at least a fourth placed finish in Serie A over the weekend but are not guaranteed of a place in the Champions League according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, which was aired a short time ago.

The report explains that one of them (as well as Lazio) could be forced to miss out on the Champions League, despite a top four finish, if Napoli win the Champions League and Roma win the Europa League.

UEFA regulations only permit an association to enter a maximum of five teams into the Europa League and if the above happened there would be six ‘qualified’ therefore whoever finishes fourth place would miss out on qualification for the Champions League.

In the event that the above unfolds, five clubs would be entered in the Champions League and two clubs would be entered into the Europa League.
