Inter central defender Stefan de Vrij has been named the best defender during the 2019/20 Serie A season by Serie A as part of their end of season awards.

The Dutch national team starred for Inter in the recently concluded season, in which Inter achieved a second placed finish and finished just one point behind Serie A champions Juventus.

The former Lazio player was virtually ever present for Inter during the season with him appearing in 34 of Inter’s 38 league matches, in which he scored four goals, provided three assists and helped Inter to keep 11 clean sheets.

Due to being named the best defender in the league, de Vrij will be able to wear a special patch on his jersey in the upcoming season, just like Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was able to do during the season just gone by.

Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny won goalkeeper of the year, Atalanta’s Alejandro Gomez won midfielder of the year whilst Lazio’s Ciro Immobile won attacker of the year.

Dejan Kulusevski of Parma has been named best young player and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala has been named as the league’s most valuable player.
