Genoa striker Goran Pandev’s agent Leonardo Corsi has confirmed that Inter were interested in bringing his client back to the club.

Near the end of the January transfer window reports emerged in the media that the Nerazzurri were thinking about moving for the treble winning hero to bolster their striking options, although no move transpired in the end.

“Will he sign a contract extension? Yes, the president is fond of him. He is a certainty from which to start again. He will finish his career at Genoa. Moreover, Goran is in fact Italian, he has citizenship and three children born in Italy,” Corsi explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

He then discussed Inter’s attempt to sign his client but revealed Pandev was never going to leave due to his connection with his current employers, who he has made 135 appearances for since joining back in 2015.

“In January there was a romantic flashback from Inter but Genoa had to be saved, he is linked to the Rossoblu colors and would never have left Genoa.”

Corsi then went on to praise his client for his continued importance to the national team despite him now being 37-years-old.

“I wish to add that he is also a point of reference for his national team who are trying to qualify for the European Championships. He is the beacon of a team in which Ristovski, Elmas and Bardhi play, among others, whom I would recommend to various Italian clubs as well as a series of Akademija Pandev players.”

Pandev had two spells with Inter totalling six years. He spent three years as a youngster with the club before returning ahead of Inter’s treble winning season in 2009/10. He made 69 appearances across all competitions for the club, in which he scored eight goals and tallied 15 assists.
