Inter have done it. Antonio Conte has led the Nerazzuri to their first European final in a decade and they now have the chance to left their first piece of silverware in nine years.

Here we dissect Inter’s incredible 5-0 drubbing of Shakhtar Donetsk, which will see them face Sevilla in the final.

Lautaro Martinez Back To His Brilliant Best

After months of speculation and rumours of his departure, Lautaro Martinez finally appears to have shaken it off and is playing like he intends on being an Inter player next term.

Monday night’s performance was arguably his best in an Inter shirt with his brilliant header giving Inter a half time lead.

His second goal was simply vintage Lautaro. A curling second time shot from outside the area was similar to that of his goal against Napoli a few weeks prior.

When him and Lukaku are on song, Inter are a match for anyone and Sevilla will no doubt be concerned after the two destroyed Shakhtar’s defence.

No Limit To How Good Nicolo Barella Can Become

Barella of late has been absolutely outstanding.

A shaky start was soon put right after his brilliant goal in the win over Verona in October and he hasn’t looked back since.

He never stops running. His tackling breaks up play at both ends of the pitch and the intelligence of his passing was demonstrated with his excellent assist for Lautaro’s first goal.

The signing of Barella last summer was one that excited fans given his excellent performances for Cagliari but he’s turned up a gear this term.

Given his age, he still has plenty of time to improve and evolve. This is a man capable of 300+ games for Inter and 100 Azzuri caps.

Never Disrespect Danilo D’Ambrosio

Who would have thought Danilo D’Ambrosio would be scoring for Inter in a European Semi-Final in 2020.

Surely D’Ambrosio shouldn’t have ever survived the so called ‘banter era’ right?

The reason he is still there is the fact that he gives 110% every time he lines up for Inter and Conte knows this.

His performances under Spaletti and now Conte have been warrior like and for him to hopefully be in a cup winning side wearing blue and black will be his reward for these.

D’Ambrosio deserves the chance to lift silverware in blue and black for surviving the banter era alone but also for proving the doubters wrong who never thought he would.

Romelu Lukaku’s Redemption Is Complete

The sheer brilliance of Romelu Lukaku was on full display on Monday evening.

His finishing deadly and the sheer pace and power to burn off the Shakhtar defence at will was simply frightening.

Much has been made of Big Rom and it’s been hard to find superlatives week after week for his performances but this week he proved in front of the entirety of Europe that he is up there with the best strikers in the game.

Lukaku’s goals against Shakhtar meant he extended his own record of scoring in consecutive games (10) in Europa League competition.

Oh but he has a poor first touch apparently.

Antonio Conte’s Game Plan Was Flawless

When a team has a week to prepare for a game, there’s no better in coaching than Antonio Conte when it comes to preparation.

Inter sat in at times and frustrated Shakhtar who had no ideas in terms of breaking them down.

They sharply attacked and hit on the break when they could and forced Shakhtar into making mistakes defensively.

Inter had more quality than Shakhtar on the night but this was down to the fact that they shut the Ukrainian side out and punished them at every opportunity.

Conte has totally changed the rhetoric from his mad outburst just two weeks ago.

His meticulous planning and his belief in his system have been proven successful and if he were to go one step further and lift the Europa League on Friday evening, he would cement his legacy in charge so far.

Inter are a better side than twelve months ago and Conte is giving Suning reasons to back him so they are an even better side twelve months from now.
