Inter coach Antonio Conte has never been particularly interested in Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how negotiations between the Nerazzurri and the Gialloblu regarding the 20-year-old Albanian defender has slowed sharply, with the club now focusing on other targets. The player has never been a priority for Conte, who wanted a more experienced defender, and a left-footed centre back that could be the backup for Alessandro Bastoni. Kumbulla, whilst he has played on the left side, is right footed and more comfortable in the centre or on the right side.

Inter were incredibly close to securing Kumbulla’s signature, the report continues, but weeks have passed and no final decisive offer was ever sent. Instead, the club are now looking to sign Roma veteran Aleksandar Kolarov, a deal which seems to be close to being completed over the next few hours or days.
