AC Milan should thank Inter coach Antonio Conte for changing the Nerazzurri’s transfer strategy allowing the Rossoneri to sign Sandro Tonali, according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Libero.

Tonali joining Inter appeared to be a certainty but the Nerazzurri stalling and changing their transfer plans and pulling out of the race to sign the player cleared the way for AC Milan to sign him.

Tonali had agreed personal terms with Inter on the basis of a five year contract but Inter manager Antonio Conte’s transfer demands of experienced players ready to win now as opposed to untested young players, are what led to Inter changing their strategy and ultimately letting the Italian prospect head to the Rossoneri instead.

The report goes on to explain that Barcelona’s Arturo Vidal is Conte’s primary target for the midfield. The Chilean midfielder has been told he has no future at the La Liga club and is no stranger to Conte having worked with him previously at Inter’s arch rivals Juventus a few years ago.
