Benfica are interested in signing Inter midfielder Joao Mario according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The Liga NOS club are understood to want to bring Joao Mario back to his native Portugal and they are thinking about making an offer of €12 million for him.

Joao Mario spent the 2019/20 season out on loan at Russian Premier League side Lokomotiv Moscow, who passed up on the opportunity to sign him on a permanent basis.

The former Sporting CP player’s time with Inter appears as good as certain to be over and the report from the Rome based news outlet explains that he is waiting a new destination.

Joao Mario joined Inter in a circa €40 million deal back in the Summer of 2016 and has ultimately failed to live up to expectations. In 69 appearances across all competitions, he has scored four goals and provided 13 assists for his teammates.
