Former Lazio midfielder Giancarlo Camolese has revealed that if he were in charge of Inter, he would deploy Christian Eriksen as a second striker.

Eriksen joined Inter back in the most recent January transfer window from Tottenham Hotspur but has failed to live up to expectations at the Nerazzurri and has failed to adapt to Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system.

“I know that system well, and it one that has also given me good results but you must have certain characteristics for it,” Camolese, who also had two spells as manager of Torino, explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TMW Radio, late last night.

Camolese went on to add: “Eriksen is an excellent player overall, but if I were to play him in the 3-5-2, I would put him as a second striker.

“If he were to play on the outside of the midfield three, he would have to help defend the wide areas, but he must be left more free. Inter also tried to play a 3-4-1-2, but probably the team that gives Conte more guarantees is one without Eriksen.”

Since joining Inter on a four and a half year contract, former Ajax player Eriksen has made 33 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored four goals and provided three assists for his teammates.

This season the 28-year-old has made a total of seven appearances across all competitions to date but in his time on the park, which totals 301 minutes, he has failed to make any goal contributions.
