Sassuolo central defender Marlon has shared that the most difficult player that he has had to mark during his time in Serie A has been Inter striker Romelu Lukaku.

Marlon has become the second player lately to have spoken on the difficulty of trying to stop Lukaku, who has scored 28 goals in 42 Serie A appearances for Inter since arriving in 2019, with Atalanta’s Cristian Romero also speaking on how difficult it was to mark Lukaku.

“The most difficult striker to mark? Lukaku. I faced him against last year and it was really hard trying to stop him,” the former Barcelona defender explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport, which appeared in today’s print edition.

“He’s very powerful and fast at the same time and he knows how to use his body very well to defend the ball.”

The 25-year-old, who has been with the Neroverdi club since the Summer of 2018 and is contracted to them until 2023, then went on to share his views with regards to the race for this season’s Serie A title.

This season Marlon, who is a former Brazilian youth national team representative, has made two appearances but has failed to make any goal contributions during his time on the park.

“I have always seen Juventus as favourites but there are many outsiders. Close attention should be paid to Atalanta and Inter.”
