Former Inter central midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic has shared his belief that the Inter side he played in could have done better, just like the current Inter side, who have not started the 2020/21 season in the way that they were expected to.

“My time with Inter was a good memory, for sure. Playing for one of the most important teams in the world like Inter was the realisation of a dream, even though it didn’t happen at an easy time,” he explained in an interview with Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

“When I arrived at the Nerazzurri, many changes were taking place, with the old guard leaving and several players on the way out.”

He was then asked if he thinks he and his teammates could have gotten better results out on the field to which he responded: “Without a doubt, we could have done better, much better. Both in Italy and in Europe.”

Next the Serbian spoke on who was the best player during his time at Inter.

“There were a lot of strong players. There was Zanetti, Samuel, Milito. Kovacic was young, but you could already see he was really good. Above all, I looked at Cambiasso with admiration, he was a true champion.”

Kuzmanovic, who also played for the likes of Stuttgart, FC Basel during his career, then spoke on some of the people who helped him the most when he was playing in Italy for Inter, Fiorentina and Udinese.

“At Inter I had a good relationship with everyone. In general, however, I want to mention Tomáš Ujfaluši, who helped me a lot at Fiorentina. He spoke German and was very kind. As well as Adrian Mutu.”

Kuzmanovic, who retired from football back in 2018, then went on to share his thoughts on the current Inter side, which is managed by Antonio Conte and possesses several top players.

“They can do better. Important players have been bought. The Nerazzurri must fight for the title, they can win it. The squad is competitive.

“Hakimi on the right is really good. Vidal is a phenomenon, who has won everything wherever he has been. Brozovic is very strong. Lukaku is an animal, from a football point of view, who makes the difference.”

In conclusion Kuzmanovic was asked about Marcelo Brozovic and whether he can be the Esteban Cambiasso of this Inter side.

“It’s very difficult, I’ll explain why. Esteban has won everything from the league to the Champions League. If you are an Inter player, people expect you to win. Only in this way can you truly remain in Nerazzurri history. Whoever wins remains in people’s heads.

“Until that happens, you can’t be compared to a monster as sacred as the Argentine. It is true for Marcelo, as for any current starter of the Beneamata.

“For this reason, no one can be associated with Cambiasso today and remember, the Argentinewas instrumental for years and years, not just for one or two seasons. Brozovic is a phenomenal player, but he is missing a title. Let’s see if he will succeed now with his teammates.”
