Italy’s three biggest daily sports newspapers Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport have been unanimous in their praise of Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni following his performance in Italy’s 2-0 UEFA Nations League win last night away to Bosnia & Herzegovina.
The highly rated young defender made his third straight appearance for the Azzurri in Sarajevo and he once again impressed when on the pitch.
Gazzetta dello Sport have given Bastoni a rating of 6.5 for his efforts at the Stadion Grbavica and had the following to say about his performance: “There is no Lewandowski and therefore he is less visible, but when he is called into question he showed off his marking ability and character (perhaps too much when he protested). If this continues he is in the 23 man squad for the Euro’s.”
Corriere dello Sport also gave the former Atalanta player, who is contracted to Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season, a rating of 6.5/10: “He played the game like an old connoisseur of football, without frills, with substance, precision, technical cleanliness and with the usual safety.”
Tuttosport matches both the Milan and Rome based news outlets in giving Bastoni a 6.5/10 rating and said the following about his efforts in Bosnia: “Further proof of his great maturity.”
This season for Inter the 21-year-old has made seven appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has provided a single assist.
