Inter returned to action following the fortnight of international fixtures with a home tie against struggling Torino.

The Nerazzuri were hoping to get back to winning ways in the league following a string of draws and a defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

A truly Pazza style 4-2 victory over La Granata after being two goals down did little for manager Antonio Conte’s reputation.

Here’s what we have taken from the pulsating affair on Sunday afternoon.

Is The Squad Really Any Stronger Than Last Year?

In pre season it looked as if despite Covid limiting their spending power, Inter had improved their squad on last term.

Their team was much more solid and capable of taking on Serie A and Europe on paper.

However, with a poor start to this campaign it looks perhaps like that may not be the case.

Conte campaigned for experience and that’s what he has ended up with but the worry now is that Inter are stockpiling old dead wood.

Sunday saw minutes on the pitch for Andrea Ranocchia, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Ivan Perisic and even aged new recruits Ashley Young and Arturo Vidal.

Radja Nainggolan managed a late cameo too but all of this players are past their prime whichever way you look at it and have zero re sale value.

Conte’s demands for older players makes the squad look worryingly like a retirement home and will mean Inter will need another rebuild in 18 months time.

Inter will pay the price for not bringing in younger players over past few windows.

A Better Left Sided Wing Back Is A Must

Ashley Young has been a pleasant surprise in blue and black and he must be applauded for his efforts since arriving in Italy but that position needs improving.

With Hakimi on the right, the left needs to have a player of similar ability and potential to allow Inter to improve and progress over coming seasons.

Ivan Perisic is no answer and he is moving into his mid thirties so come January and the summer windows, this position must be addressed.

A more creative outlet with pace would give Inter another attacking dimension down that side.

Romelu Lukaku Is On His Way To Inter Greatness

Romelu Lukaku is game by game becoming a Nerazzuri icon, one that Inter thought they had in the shape of Mauro Icardi.

The bustling Belgian looks at the top of his game despite a ridiculous schedule giving him such little time to rest and recuperate between games.

He bailed Inter and Conte out again
on Sunday and his ability to galvanise the side makes them so much stronger.

Inter in Lukaku have a man that truly leads from the front and by example.

To say they would be a much worse team without him would be an understatement.

Beppe Marotta Needs To Be Careful In The Ongoing Eriksen Vs Conte Saga

The former Juve general has a tough situation to handle after the outspoken comments of both Eriksen and Conte in the week’s media.

Eriksen bemoaned his lack of playing time and Conte stuck to his guns when asked about him not playing, claiming that the Dane had had plenty of chances.

Big picture is Eriksen has been harshly treated and has been given little chance to prove why he was signed which so far makes him a pointless signing.

Conte has no logical reason for denying him game time but he’s the boss so fans and player alike must deal with it.

With the writing on the wall, Marotta must make sure he doesn’t sit too far on Conte’s lap so it damages the sale value of Eriksen.

As far as attacking midfielder’s go in Europe there’s little who are better than Eriksen so he should command a decent fee or be a decent bargaining tool but he won’t be if Marotta and Conte hound him.

The Eriksen saga needs to stop now and it needs Beppe to be mature and move him on with minimum fuss and for a deal that benefits the club.

Antonio Conte May Have Struck The Winning Formula

Inter post the introduction of Lautaro Martinez looked as good as they have done in the league all season.

The withdrawal of misfiring Roberto Gagliardini freed up space for Sanchez and Martinez to roam around and feed off Lukaku.

The midfield of Vidal and Barella was impenetrable and full of legs also which meant they couldn’t be broken down.

A sort of 3-4-2-1 formation looked formidable and ultimately blew the Torino side away in the last twenty minutes so surely it has given Conte food for thought.

The stubborn Lecce born coach must take what he has learned into Wednesday’s must win game against Real with confidence that this system gives Inter what they’ve been missing. Balance between attack and midfield and actual space to create.

Please take note gaffer.
