Yesterday’s meeting between Inter manager Antonio Conte and club management was a significant one according to a report from Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

Various topics were discussed at the meeting but Conte leaving the club immediately was never discussed. It is not the intention of Conte nor the intention of club management, who continue to have trust in him, to part ways.

The meeting was both clear and direct and those involved took stock of the situation aware of the fact that the great goal for the season is to win the Serie A title.

Whilst being eliminated from the Champions League was not part of the clubs plans, those involved are aware that Inter would not have gotten far had they made it into the knockout stages. Once the wounds created by the European elimination have been licked, all will row in the same direction with no more excuses.

The upcoming January transfer window was also spoken about and just like the most recent transfer window, this coming transfer window will have to be self-financed thus meaning that Inter will need to sell before they buy.

Conte shared his belief that the squad is overrated by the media. Inter lack a true left wing-back and an alternative to Romelu Lukaku.

What happens will largely depend on exits with Christian Eriksen, Radja Nainggolan and Matias Vecino all in with a chance of leaving.

Someone like Rodrigo de Paul is appreciated at Inter but not a priority. Conte would prefer to add a more dynamic player who is good in both phases of play. Inter could pursue a more expensive option in the event Eriksen leaves for €25-30 million.

A lack of personality in the squad was also highlighted during yesterday’s meeting. The report goes on to conclude that even if Inter do not win the Scudetto it may not necessarily mean Conte will be sacked.

If Inter only lose out by a few points a sacking is unlikely but if Inter missed out by 20 points or so, a separation would be almost inevitable.
