Stefano Sensi could be the most important addition to Inter’s midfield during the month of January, a report in Italy has argued today.

Gazzetta dello Sport‘s Luca Taidelli suggested the 25-year-old’s return to fitness could prove crucial in the Nerazzurri’s bid to win the Serie A title, having made just eight appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Inter would like to sign a new midfielder if possible this month but they will need to offload Christian Eriksen, having already sent Radja Nainggolan back on loan to Cagliari, before any new arrival is possible.

They will also need to find a player available at favourable economic conditions, given the lack of money available to spend in this window.

In addition to Sensi, Matias Vecino could also prove an important ‘signing’ in the second half of the season as the Uruguayan slowly returns to fitness.

Nicolo Barella remains indispensable for Antonio Conte alongside Marcelo Brozovic, but the Croatian is one booking away from a one-game suspension in Serie A.

Roberto Gagliardini, who was rested in the 2-1 win at Hellas Verona before Christmas, and Arturo Vidal, who is expected to start against Crotone on Sunday when Inter resume their league campaign, are the other options available for Conte.
