Atalanta are prepared to keep Papu Gomez until the end of the season if they do not receive a satisfactory offer in January, according to one of Italy’s leading broadcasters.

Gomez has been heavily linked with a move to Inter following a breakdown in relations with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, which has led to him being frozen out in recent weeks.

Sky Sport Italia reporter Massimiliano Nebuloni said the 32-year-old was training separately from his teammates but that Atalanta were still waiting for an offer.

Should no appropriate offer arrive this month, from Inter or another club, the club will choose from one of two options.

“The first scenario is that the player remains frozen out of the squad until the end of the season,” Nebuloni explained.

“The other option is that he agrees on a truce with the coach and the club and is reintegrated into Atalanta’s squad; at the moment this is the least likely scenario.”

Inter have been strongly linked with signing the former Catania player and some reports have even suggested that Inter have an agreement in principle with the player over a contract.

Inter have however not reached any form of agreement with Atalanta over the transfer of Gomez, who Atalanta are reportedly holding out for €10 million for.
