Inter tried to offload Marcelo Brozovic in a swap deal last summer, a leading Italian broadcaster revealed today.

As per Sport Mediaset, the Nerazzurri attempted to get rid of the Croatian midfielder but they were unsuccessful in setting up an exchange involving either Paris Saint-Germain’s Leandro Paredes or Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

Inter were looking to move on from Brozovic after some off-field incidents and a dip in form towards the end of last season, but now he has returned to performing at high levels and is without doubt a key player in Antonio Conte’s side.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season but a report last month suggested that talks over a new deal have in fact commenced.

This season the former Dinamo Zagreb player has made 22 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has managed to score one goal and provide seven assists for his teammates.

He has received huge praise in the Italian media this week for his performance during Sunday’s Derby d’Italia win against Juventus.
