Former AC Milan defender Serginho is confident the Rossoneri will prevail in tonight’s Coppa Italia derby against Inter.

As things stand, Stefano Pioli’s side are leading the way in Serie A at the halfway point of the 2020-21 season with 43 points to their name.

Inter are directly behind them with 41 points, but their league battle will be put on hold tonight as they fight for a spot in the semi-finals at San Siro.

“This game is a test of AC Milan’s Scudetto ambitions” Serginho argued in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition.

“The gap in the standings is minimal and the effects of winning or losing a derby should not be underestimated.

“We will win.”

Serginho, who spent nine years with AC Milan between 1999 and 2008, was then asked whether he agrees with the idea that Inter are better equipped to win the Serie A title this season than his former employers.

“Inter have more experience but the Scudetto is won by performing week after week, and AC Milan are the team with the most balance and consistency and they are hungry for success.”

Inter versus AC Milan is scheduled to kick off at 20:45 local time tonight and the winner of the tie will face the winner of tomorrow’s match between Juventus and SPAL.
