Inter had a request to reschedule next Friday’s Serie A match away to Fiorentina rejected by league organisers, according to an Italian media report.

As per Tuttosport’s print edition, the Nerazzurri enquired about moving the match to Saturday February 6 given that they will be playing in the Coppa Italia semi-finals against Juventus on Tuesday 2.

The Lega Serie A declined the request for fear it would set a precedent for all clubs engaged in Coppa Italia or European football in future, with a subsequent risk of calendar chaos.

With the game not being moved, Inter will in fact have an extra rest day following the match against Fiorentina ahead of the second leg against Juventus, scheduled for February 9, which some at Inter are said to not view as a bad thing.

After the decline of the request, Antonio Conte’s side’s trip to the Stadio Artemio Franchi will take place on Friday February 5, with kick-off scheduled for 20:45 local time.

Juventus host Roma on February 6, giving Andrea Pirlo’s side more time to recover from the first leg at San Siro but less time to prepare for the second leg in Turin.
