Roma’s sporting director Tiago Pinto has left Milan after failing to agree a deal with Inter for an Edin Dzeko-Alexis Sanchez loan swap, according to a report from a leading Italian journalist.

As per Sky Sport Italia reporter and transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, there are currently no conditions for a deal to be carried out, hence why Pinto has decided to return to the capital.

Inter and Roma have been in talks over a possible loan exchange for the past 24 hours, but it seems the clubs cannot find common ground to make the deal work economically.

If the situation does not change in the next 72 hours, Pinto and the rest of the Roma management will focus their attention on mending the rift between Dzeko and head coach Paulo Fonseca.

Talks appear to have fallen through due to the difference between Sanchez and Dzeko’s gross salaries, with Inter paying only half the tax on the Chilean’s wages due to advantages they are allowed as per Italian tax law.

In a tweet earlier this evening, Di Marzio said Inter would have to submit an improved offer to the Giallorossi to get Dzeko, which seems highly unlikely given the Nerazzurri’s economic difficulties.
