Matias Vecino will miss Inter’s Serie A match at Fiorentina tonight as the midfielder continues to regain fitness following his knee injury, an Italian media report explained today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition confirmed Vecino was left out of Antonio Conte’s matchday squad not due to injury, but rather so he would not miss out on valuable training time after seven months on the sidelines.

As reported by FcInterNews.it last night, the Uruguay international would not have played at the Stadio Artemio Franchi anyway and will therefore stay at Appiano Gentile to pursue his personalised training program, something he could not have done in Florence.

Conte only included Vecino in his squad for Tuesday’s match against Juventus in the Coppa Italia because Inter were playing at home and it did not disrupt the midfielder’s schedule.

Conte is expected to name three changes to the Inter side that started the Derby d’Italia defeat against the Bianconeri, according to the Rome-based publication.

Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi will return from suspension to replace Lautaro Martinez and Matteo Darmian, while Ivan Perisic takes over from Ashley Young at left wing-back.

Inter’s probable starting XI vs Fiorentina (3-5-2): Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Hakimi, Barella, Brozovic, Vidal, Perisic; Lukaku, Sanchez.
