The jury remains out on Christian Eriksen’s second wind at Inter, a report in the Italian media argued tonight.

Eriksen started for the Nerazzurri in last night’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg at Juventus, but the midfielder was unable to prevent Inter sliding out of the tournament after a turgid goalless draw.

Gazzetta dello Sport said ‘Christian 2.0’ was still a ‘new-born’ in his new deep-lying play-maker position, and that while there have been signs in recent weeks that he could be turning his career in Milan around, a huge shadow still hung over the Dane.

The highlight of Eriksen’s Inter stint so far came when he scored the winner against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals two weeks ago, followed by an impressive 90-minute performance during Inter’s next match at home to Benevento in Serie A.

The Milanese publication argued, however, that Tuesday’s Derby d’Italia had cast fresh doubt on how useful Eriksen would be to Antonio Conte during the remainder of the season.

As the minutes passed at the Allianz Stadium, the report claimed, Eriksen’s performance declined and it still seemed as thought he was not up to the challenge of leading Inter’s midfield.

Inter now have just one competition to compete in, Serie A, meaning Conte is likely to change the team less, and it is therefore not certain that Conte will start Eriksen again as there is no longer any room for experiments.

One journalist even suggested today that Conte was trying to deliberately sabotage Eriksen’s revival at Inter by starting him in last night’s match.
