Zinho Vanheusden is dreaming of returning to Inter one day, according to the defender’s father.

The Standard Liege captain will reportedly re-join Nerazzurri in a deal worth around €17 million this summer, as per a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it, the 21-year-old’s father Johan revealed Vanheusden was following Antonio Conte’s side keenly this season.

“He is watching all of Inter’s games and follows the team everywhere,” Johan said.

“So I would say that yes, his dream is still to be part of the Nerazzurri.

“But maybe for him, at least for next year, it might be wise to be part of a team that allows him to play regularly, after this year’s injury.”

Zinho is on the sidelines at present as he recovers from a serious knee injury, but Johan was hopeful his son could recover in time to play for Belgium at this summer’s European Championships.

He then went on to explain that it would not be a problem if Zinho had to stay with Standard Liege for another season, explaining that the final decision would lie with Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio.

“If he were to stay another year at Standard I would be happy, but I’m sure that if he is fit physically and if he is 100%, he will be ready for Inter, if he is brought back,” Johan assured.

“Everything will depend on Ausilio’s decisions.

“We believe in Zinho 1000%.”

Vanheusden revealed in an interview last week that he was close friends with Romelu Lukaku, having spent time together while on international duty for Belgium.

Johan confirmed the pair were on great terms, revealing: “Lukaku is a big example for Zinho.

“Ever since they met with the national team he’s been learning a lot from him, especially in terms of the mental challenges for players in the world of football.”

In conclusion, Johan also shared his thoughts on Inter’s chances of winning the Scudetto this season.

“I hope they can win the title,” he admitted.

“They deserve it, they are a world class club.

“When Zinho won the youth league with Inter’s Primavera, he saw how great this club can be.

“Let’s say that since then he has been infected with the Inter gene, which still lingers within him.”
