Romelu Lukaku has been tipped to guide Inter to victory in Sunday’s derby by their former goalkeeper Ivano Bordon.

The Nerazzurri head into the match sitting top of the Serie A standings with a one-point advantage over AC Milan, and while Bordon does not think winning would be decisive, he does think it would give Inter’s title hopes a big shot in the arm.

The two sides last met in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals in January and Inter ran out 2-1 winners on that occasion, bouncing back from a 2-1 league defeat to their rivals earlier on in the season.

“I don’t think it is decisive given that there are still many games to go until the end of the season,” Bordon explained to Itasportspress.it.

“But if Inter win, AC Milan would be four points behind and it would be a good boost in terms of self-esteem and also in terms of morale.

“Antonio Conte would be en route to winning the Scudetto.

“For me Lukaku will be decisive on Sunday, he will be the man who decides the derby.”

Bordon also discussed the revitalised Christian Eriksen, who is expected to start against the Rossoneri this weekend, and tipped the Danish international to help Inter make a leap in quality.

“When Eriksen has started he has always proved to be an excellent player,” Bordon argued.

“He can certainly help take Inter to the next level and I consider him an important player for the Nerazzurri team.”

Bordon made 388 appearances in all competitions for Inter between 1969 and 1983, winning two Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia trophies with the Nerazzurri.

He also spent two years working as the club’s goalkeeping coach between 1999 and 2001.
