Inter legend Nicola Berti could not contain his delight today after the Nerazzurri’s dominant win in the Milan derby.

Antonio Conte’s side have raced into a four-point lead at the top of Serie A after a 3-0 victory over their city rivals AC Milan yesterday.

Inter are now everyone’s favourites to win the Scudetto in May and Berti said there was no excuse not to pick up the title now.

“It’s an unbelievable joy,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview for Monday’s print edition.

“We were already obliged to target the Scudetto and now we are even more so.

“It wasn’t a simple win, we struggled for 10 minutes at most, but it was clear and emphatic.

“You could tell we had more than AC Milan but I didn’t expect us to show that much superiority.”

Berti identified Conte himself as the secret to Sunday’s win, which was secured thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.

“His relationship with the players is extraordinary and now everyone is playing for him,” the Nerazzurri’s former midfielder explained.

“You can see it in the concentration they’re showing, the aggressive determination, the way they run towards the bench after every goal.

“This Inter side is a complete team in every sense and the credit goes to the coach for his splendid work.”

Asked what Inter needed to fear the most in their title run-in, Berti responded: “Only themselves.

“They’re a crazy team, their DNA tells you that, but I think they’ve done the hardest part already.

“Now they have the downhill section where you need strong legs to avoid falling over, like the ones Ivan Perisic has.”

Inter will look to extend their gap over AC Milan at the top when Conte’s side welcome Genoa to San Siro on Sunday.

Conte has given his players two days off after their derby delight but the Inter boss is said to be already focused on the challenges ahead.
