Inter have a new joker card for their Serie A title bid in Christian Eriksen, according to an Italian media report today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Eriksen has finally understood what coach Antonio Conte wanted from him while Conte has decided to look at the Dane in a different way to the past, when Eriksen was struggling.

Eriksen’s metamorphosis is partly down to the new position he is playing in, as the left central midfielder in a midfield trio alongside Marcelo Brozovic.

He has become an alternative play-maker for the Nerazzurri when the Croatian is man-marked and represents ‘a weapon’ for Conte in his charge to bring the Scudetto back to San Siro.

The Milan-based publication pointed out that in Eriksen’s best season, the season where he helped Tottenham Hotspur to the Champions League final in 2019, he rarely played centrally in Spurs’ 4-2-3-1 system.

Instead, the now 29-year-old played more out to the left, if not the right of the attacking three behind their lead striker Harry Kane.

It has taken Eriksen a while to settle at Inter, the report said, but his free-kick winner against AC Milan in last month’s Coppa Italia quarter-final was the ’emotional spark’ which kick-started his revival.

Impressive performances against Lazio and the Rossoneri again on Sunday have established him as Inter’s first-choice option to partner Brozovic and Nicolo Barella.
