Inter have announced some very welcome news with regard to the club’s finances, revealing the club’s commercial revenue increased last year.

The Nerazzurri’s owners Suning are battling economic difficulties here and back home in China, where they are reportedly preparing to sell off up to 25% in their company to raise funds.

Despite the bleak outlook, Inter confirmed in a statement today that their commercial revenue – revenue from sponsorships and TV rights – enjoyed an increase of €41.3 million in 2020, a growth of 25.7% which took the club up to €202.3 million.

Most of the increase was down to the fact that the 2019-20 season was extended beyond June 30, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic forced Europe’s major leagues to pause for three months.

As far as commercial growth relating to this season is concerned, there was an increase of €3.2 million to €164.2 million before 31 December, a 2% growth in percentage terms.

Inter also revealed on Friday that they had lost an estimated €60 million from having to play games behind closed doors at San Siro, which has placed a huge dent in the club’s books.

The Nerazzurri nonetheless confirmed in an official statement that Suning were committed to guaranteeing their economic stability, with or without the arrival of new partners.
