Nicolo Barella has what it takes to become an Inter legend, according to the Nerazzurri’s former midfielder Nicola Berti.

Barella has received rave reviews throughout this season for his performances under Antonio Conte, impressing again during last week’s derby win over AC Milan.

The 24-year-old will be helping to lead the Nerazzurri to another win on Sunday when Inter welcome Genoa to San Siro.

Speaking to Inter’s official podcast today, Kick-Off, Berti said on Barella: “He’s the new Berti.

“We have the same temperament and desire and he has the same spirit and grit, even if technically speaking he is better than me.

“This fantastic guy will be our next captain.

“Barella doesn’t pick up bookings anymore, beforehand he wasn’t happy until he’d got a yellow card.

“He is balanced without taking away his determination, he’s an absolute number one and will be an Inter icon.”

Berti also had praise for who he felt had been two of Inter’s most impressive performers in recent weeks, during the league wins over Lazio and AC Milan.

“The defence played two extraordinary games, in particular Milan Skriniar.

“Then we’re all talking about Romelu Lukaku, but against Lazio and AC Milan it was Lautaro who played better.

“He’s pressing, scores goals and he never gives up.

“The two who surprised me most in these two games were Lautaro and Skriniar.”

Inter are four points clear at the top of Serie A following their triumph in the Derby della Madonnina, with 13 wins in their last 16 league games.

Conte is expected to make just one change to his side against the Rossoblu on Sunday, with Matteo Darmian stepping in for the suspended Achraf Hakimi.
