Inter picked up three very important points against Genoa earlier on today, Inter wing-back Matteo Darmian has admitted following the game.

The Nerazzurri ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Davide Ballardini’s side at San Siro with Darmian scoring the second of these goals.

“We knew it was an important match for us, we saw from the beginning that we wanted to unlock it immediately and that is how it went,” the 36-time Italian national team representative told Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, post-match.

“We took to the field determined and with the right desire.

“Already in the first half we could have killed it off because we created many chances without conceding anything and then luckily we did it in the second half.

“These are three very important points.”

Darmian then went on to speak about the progression that he has made as a player in his brief time with Inter.

“I have certainly improved a lot. The important thing is to be ready. We know that there are many games and we need everyone, it is not an easy season.

“Between COVID, suspensions and injuries we will need all the members of the squad and we have shown it again today because everyone who plays gives their contribution, which is fundamental to achieve the results we want.”

Darmian proceeded to reflect on his goal, which came with about 20 minutes to spare and certainly calmed the nerves a little.

“I tried to focus on the ball and try to hit it at the right moment, it went well, I shot well and I managed to score and let’s say killed off the game.”

Next the former Torino player spoke on whether the real strength of this team is the group itself.

“Yes, definitely. We have grown a lot from all points of view. At the group level we feel very good and this can also be seen on the pitch.

“Our strength is that we all feel important and make ourselves available to the coach.

“We must move forward on this path which is the right one, there are still a few games to go but we want to fight until the end and we must continue to work with our heads down.”

In conclusion it was pointed out to Darmian that all three scorers today were formerly Manchester United players and he shared his delight with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez also getting on the scoresheet.

“I had four important years in Manchester that made me grow from all points of view.

“Playing in another type of football and living in another culture made me grow, I’m glad that Romelu and Alexis also scored.”

Inter are next in action this coming Thursday against one of Darmian’s former employers, Parma.
