Inter boss Antonio Conte has already identified a high-profile transfer target for this summer, according to a leading Italian journalist.

The Nerazzurri are unlikely to be able to make big investments in the upcoming transfer window due to their well-known financial difficulties, meaning they must seek free transfers and loans.

As per Sport Mediaset reporter Claudio Raimondi during their ‘Pressing’ show last night, Conte has picked out Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum as a potential reinforcement in midfield, with the Dutch international out of contract at the end of this season.

Conte is said to know the player well and has recommended him to Inter’s chief executive Beppe Marotta.

Sandro Sabatini backed up Raimondi’s report during the program by adding that Inter already have ‘a handshake’ with Wijnaldum which dates back to last year.

Wijnaldum will not sign a contract extension with Liverpool, Raimondi added, and has also been linked with Barcelona in the Spanish media.

The 30-year-old, who formerly played for Newcastle United and Feyenoord, has made 36 appearances across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, in which he has scored a total of three goals.
