Inter’s players could end up proving too hungry for their Serie A title rivals this season, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As per Corriere della Sera’s print edition, the Nerazzurri have a clear advantage in the fight for the Scudetto now because Antonio Conte’s teams are notoriously difficult to catch when they go top of the table.
Sunday’s 3-0 win over Genoa means Inter have taken 44 points from a possible 51 in the league since their 1-1 draw at Atalanta in November, a near-perfect run of form including 14 wins in 17 games.
“Conte is difficult to overhaul when he takes the lead, not only for his motivational skills but also the quality of Inter’s football,” the Milan-based paper argued.
“There’s also a lot of hunger and desire from players who have won little or nothing in their careers so far.”
Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring for Inter at San Siro before Matteo Darmian and Alexis Sanchez scored to seal the points in the second half.
Conte’s side have now won nine home league games in a row for the first time since 2011, with only one goal conceded in their last seven Serie A encounters.
They will look to extend their red-hot streak on Thursday when they face struggling Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
