Inter have a one-goal head start on every opponent with Romelu Lukaku up front, an Italian media report has argued today.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, the Nerazzurri have scored 60 goals in Serie A this season and Lukaku has played a part in almost half of them, with 18 goals and six assists in the league.
Lukaku’s 24 goal contributions in 24 games means Antonio Conte’s side effectively start every match with a 1-0 lead.
The 27-year-old demonstrated that very effectively yesterday when he scored the opening goal against Genoa inside 32 seconds, paving the way for a comfortable 3-0 win.
While Lukaku’s presence up front is a guarantee of goals for Inter, the player himself does not appear interested in personal glory, as evidenced by his comments to Sky Sport Italia following the win at San Siro.
“I’m thinking about Inter and the important thing is that Inter win,” he said, as reported by the Milanese publication.
“These victories are messages to our rivals.”
Taking all competitions into account, Lukaku has scored 24 goals and provided six assists in 31 appearances this season.
