Romelu Lukaku is Inter’s best goal-scorer for 40 years, as explained by a report in the Italian media today.

Lukaku has scored 58 goals in 82 appearances since joining the Nerazzurri from Manchester United in 2019, finding the net again in the first minute of Sunday’s 3-0 win over Genoa.

Tuttosport’s print edition pointed out that Lukaku’s tally left him one goal shy of what Ronaldo managed in his entire five-year spell at Inter (59 goals in 99 appearances).

The Belgian also has a better goal-per-game average than Roberto Boninsegna and the club’s record all-time scorer Giuseppe Meazza.

Lukaku has 24 goal contributions in Serie A this season, the most of anyone in the league, but the Turin-based paper reminded readers that the 27-year-old has been pivotal in every competition Inter have played.

He scored four goals in five UEFA Champions League games, albeit it was not enough to prevent Inter crashing out at the group stage, as well as two goals in three Coppa Italia appearances for Antonio Conte’s side.

Lukaku has an added nastiness to his play now, the report argued, and this is perhaps due to his desire to win a trophy at Inter.
