Antonio Conte should thank his old enemy Jose Mourinho for part of Inter’s success in Serie A this season, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition recalled that Milan Skriniar drew strong links to Tottenham Hotspur last Summer and was subject to an offer from Mourinho’s side.
Ultimately, the centre-back remained in Milan after Spurs’s offer failed to reach Inter’s €60 million asking price, and Conte should be delighted Mourinho didn’t push harder.
Skriniar has regained his best form at Inter this season and is a big factor behind their charge towards the top of Serie A, with Inter conceding just once in their last seven league matches.
The 26-year-old’s performances this season have not gone unnoticed in England though, with a report tonight revealing that both Manchester United and Chelsea are keeping tabs on him.
But Skriniar, who is contracted to Inter until the summer of 2023, is said to be very happy at San Siro, having scored twice in 27 appearances for Inter this season.
