Manchester United and Chelsea both have an interest in signing Inter defender Milan Skriniar, according to an Italian media report today.

FCInterNews.it have stated that Skriniar’s excellent performances for the Nerazzurri this season have led to United reigniting their past interest in signing the Slovakian.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are on the lookout for a replacement for centre-back Thiago Silva, who has impressed in his first season but cannot continue forever at the age of 36.

The report assured that Skriniar was very happy at Inter and is dreaming of becoming a Nerazzurri icon, perhaps even a future club captain after Samir Handanovic leaves.

Any interested club will have to pay at least €50 million if they wish to prize Skriniar away from Inter, and much will depend in any case on Inter’s corporate situation and how that develops.

If the club need to make money then they could look to cash in by selling the 26-year-old, who is under contract with the club until the end of the 2022-23 season.

If Inter have new owners or have at least improved their financial situation by the summer, it’s unlikely they would listen to offers for Skriniar.

Skriniar has already been linked with Manchester United today, after Corriere dello Sport claimed the Premier League side had demanded him as compensation after Inter missed a bonus payment for Romelu Lukaku.

However, this report was contradicted by La Repubblica’s Franco Vanni who assured that the Nerazzurri paid the bonus back in January.
