Beppe Bergomi was overcome with emotion and gratitude as he entered Inter’s Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

Bergomi was one of four Nerazzurri legends who were elected by supporters in a poll last summer, along with Esteban Cambiasso, Diego Milito and Julio Cesar.

Each of them were officially inducted in a special ceremony on Tuesday evening as Inter celebrated their 113th birthday in spectacular style.

Speaking to Inter TV during the awards ceremony, Bergomi said: “It’s a nice feeling to be here, in this room full of trophies, it makes you feel a sense of belonging.

“I wore this shirt and it really is an honour to be here.

“Being part of this Hall of Fame is a source of pride, I will keep this day in my heart with me for the rest of my life.

“A trophy I remember most fondly? You never forget your first one and that was the Coppa Italia in 1981-82.

“I even scored my first goal, on September 6 against AC Milan.

“But if I had to say one I’d say the UEFA Cup, because it meant that after a long period of time Inter were returning to win an international trophy.”

Bergomi made 757 appearances for Inter, the only club of his career with whom he spent 20 seasons playing for the first team.

He scored 28 goals during that period and won plenty of silverware to boot.

Bergomi, who also won the 1982 FIFA World Cup with Italy, enjoyed three UEFA Cup titles, two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia title and one Supercoppa Italian title with the Nerazzurri.

He now works as a pundit for Sky Sport Italia and gave an interview earlier about the club’s Scudetto hopes under Antonio Conte.
